About the Midwife

Hello! I’m Melissa Watkins, and right here is my sweet little family: Jared, my husband, and our wild child, Asher.

Growing up, I’ve always enjoyed the idea of motherhood and the childbirth process. I started school to become a labor and delivery nurse. Still, I quickly realized that I did not share the same mindset and had conflicting ideas on what normal, physiological birth looks like versus that of the medical model of care. I continued my life, got married, had a baby, and moved from the big city of Fort Worth to Brownwood to be closer to family.  Though being a stay-at-home mother was extremely rewarding, I knew I was missing something in my very being by not continuing to serve the mothers in my community. Fast forward a few years, and I started midwifery school.

For school, I needed a preceptor for the clinical portion. And unlike the metroplex, there were very few options around me. For my preceptorship, I drove to Fort Worth, Abilene, and Killeen for my clinicals in both birth center and homebirth settings. Through blood, sweat, and tears (and a lot of mom guilt), I finally and ecstatically completed school early in the summer of 2026 and sat down to take my licensing exam quickly after. I honestly couldn’t have done it without my family’s support through the long, sleepless hours, and I am forever grateful.

I love mothers, motherhood, and all that it entails. I love being beside a woman, side by side, and experiencing her most vulnerable and most exciting moments in life.
